The "Big Trip"
(Sparky's big adventure)

Sparky
Ready for his first caving adventure!

Sparky with Mommy and Daddy
(August 15th - Vicki & Debbi's birthday)

In this photo, Sparky's not really sure what he's in for!
We all had to crawl through the boards and grab
a rope and swing down to the ladder which we
then had to climb down to the rocks below.
It was 95+ degrees out and we felt really
silly with heavy coats on until the 42 degrees
blasted us in the face like a air conditioner
from the entrance to the cave.

Sparky with Mommy inside "Cheese Cave"
In this photo, Sparky had finally stopped whimpering.
I don't think he liked climbing down the ladder and
the rocks in the lava tube.  I forgot to put his
sweater on, so I zipped him inside my
jacket the best I could.

Sparky, Mommy & Aunt Debbi
This photo shows Debbi climbing the ladder
to exit the cave with Vicki and Sparky below.
Cheese cave is an old lava tube created from one
of the past eruptions of Mt. Adams. This cave was
used to house the cheese factory.  The last owners
had a special entrance the descended down a long
steep metal staircase to the cave below.  Since the
cave remains a constant 42 degrees, it was ideal
for the cheese factory.  To this day, you can
still see the remains of wood structures
that were used in this operation.

This photo shows Debbi, Vicki & Sparky

the roof of the lava tube collapsed.

Sparky taking a nap with friends
Sparky couldn't go on a camping trip without some of
his toys.  He borrowed Humphrey, one of his
Aunt Debbi's stuffed toys and the toy
on right is his "Cow Cow".

Waterfall beside the road
We stopped for a break beside this huge
waterfall.  The gravel road between Randall and
Trout Lake lasted eleven miles (it seemed like 100!)
and this being about half way, seemed like a good stopping point.
Pederson Prairie campground was 6 miles from Trout Lake.
